Debate Club

The Debate Club emphasizes research, strategic thinking and advanced oral argumentation.  Students research domestic and international policy issues, current events, and contemporary philosophical trends.  Students compete in pairs or small groups and travel to tournaments in the tri-state area.  Advanced debaters have the opportunity to compete in high-level, nationally ranked tournaments.  Examples of debate topics include alternative energy, poverty reduction and the US global military policy.

Club membership is open to all THS students, particularly those interested in important current events and news worthy issues.  Meetings are held after school and participants are expected to perform research assignments and prepare arguments of competitions.  Tournaments are held on Saturdays.
